Joseph A. Langlois has been practicing family law since 1988, having served hundreds of satisfied clients by expertly managing and efficiently resolving their family law cases. Joe is a Certified Family Law Specialist with extensive experience handling all types of divorce issues for clients from a wide variety of economic circumstances.
Joe has extensive experience handling complex/high profile divorce cases. He has successfully represented a range of high profile and high net-worth individuals in family law litigation from MLB stars Barry Bonds, Gary Sheffield and Bret Saberhagen, to country music legend and businessman Buck Owens, to sports franchise owner and philanthropist John Moores. He has expertise in representing the spouses and/or other parent of the children of high profile and high net worth individuals as well. He recommends and pursues mediation and/or settlement negotiations for his high profile, high net-worth clients involving their experts and advisers in the negotiations with the opposition’s legal team. When settlement appears elusive, Joe is a thoroughly prepared and aggressive litigator with extensive trial experience in handling complex marital dissolution cases.
Joe is an expert in drafting and negotiating for his clients’ legally enforceable cohabitation, premarital and post-marital agreements, as well as effective separation and marital settlement agreements, family law orders and judgments. Joe also has the competitive vantage point of litigating many agreements that were not properly prepared by other attorneys while defending and upholding those agreements that were properly prepared.
Joe is frequently sought by the news media as both a behind-the-scenes expert source and as a commentator on high profile and celebrity divorce cases. He has appeared as a family law issues commentator on television, internet and radio many times for CNN, CBS, ABC and NBC, appearing on shows as “Entertainment Tonight,” “CNN Headline News,” “CNN Live,” “Showbiz Tonight,” “The Insider,” “E Online!,” “Justice with Judge Janine,” Newstalk 710 KIRO Seattle and Clear Channel 850 KOA Denver. He has also been quoted in a large number of publications.
Joe attended the University of California, San Diego for two years, prior to serving a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Guatemala, where he became fluent in Spanish and a Mayan dialect. Following his mission, Joe graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in economics from California State University, Northridge in 1985, and then graduated cum laude with a juris doctorate from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University Provo in 1988. After Joseph passed the California Bar Exam in 1988, he accepted an associate position with Johnson, Poulson & Slater, a general practice firm in Westwood, Calif., where he practiced primarily family law – as well as estate planning and employment law – for six years.
In 1994, Joe specialized and moved his family law practice to the reputable family law firm of Nachshin & Weston LLP. Joe became a partner in the practice in 2004, where he continued to work hard and develop his family law practice for 17 years. Several times throughout his career, Joe has been called upon to represent clients on complex family law matters in superior courts throughout the state of California from San Diego to Santa Rosa.
Joe moved his family law practice closer to home in 2011, opening the offices of Langlois Family Law in Calabasas, where he continues to serve the family law needs of those who seek his representation and legal advice.
